How to Install Resurrection Remix ROM in Xiaomi Redmi Note 3


Xiaomi’s poor device update service, I doubt it will receive Android Marshmallow update. Anyways, its time to use CM 12.1 ROM in Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. If you don’t know about Cyanogenmod, CM is a open source Android OS that is built from Android base with many customization options & themes which are not found in Stock Android. As far as I have used many different ROMs, I find Resurrection Remix the best Android OS which uses CM sources i.e More customizations. Resurrection Remix (RR) CM 12.1 based ROM for Xiaomi Redmi Note 3.


Prerequisites before Installing RR ROM:



  1. Root & Install TWRP Recovery

  2. Check the battery percentage of the phone, it should be at least 40%.

  3. This ROM is only for Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. Please don’t try this on any other smartphones.

  4. Backup all your data: Contacts, Photos, Apps & other files. (Although you will not lose other files except contacts & Apps, but its better to be on the safer side)

Download Resurrection Remix (CM 12.1) Xiaomi Redmi Note 3


  1. Resurrection Remix ROM: Download.

  2. GApps 5.1.1: Download

How to Install Resurrection Remix ROM in Xiaomi Redmi Note 3

Step 1. Download the ROM & Gapps file from the below link & transfer it in your Internal storage.


Step 2. Switch off your device & boot into recovery mode. Goto Backup & Restore. Select System, data, boot & swipe to confirm.


Step 3. Go to Wipe, Select System, data, cache & dalvik cache. Swipe to confirm wipe.


Step 4. Goto Install, Select the ROM zip file & flash it. Wait for 4-5 mins until the install is complete.


Step 5. Again go to Install & select Gapps zip file. Once the procedure is completed. Goto System > Press reboot.



Step 6. First boot might take 4-5 mins. Calm down!

How to unlock the bootloader of Redmi Note 3


Redmi Note 3 is a brand new and the current flagship device from Xiaomi.So if you own this device and want to make the most out of it and looking forward to root, customize with TWRP or a custom ROM, then the very first step you need to go through is unlocking the bootloader.


What will change after locking bootloader?

  • Locking bootloader will not affect normal OTA updates;

  • ROOT will be disabled if user has enabled it before. Enabling ROOT will need to unlock bootloader;

  • Recovery mode is changed. Updating via Recovery will need to use Mi PC Suite;

  • After unlocking, the device can do all the things as before we locked bootloader.

  • Devices with locked bootloader can not update using Miflash. Users need to unlock bootloader if they want to flash Fastboot ROMs.

Before you proceed, please note that Xiaomi unlocked their phone’s bootloader for reasons. Therefore, if you don’t know much about Android, don’t intend to flash custom ROM, etc., then it is very not recommended for you to unlock it.

How to unlock the bootloader of Redmi Note 3?

Step 1 – Open up your favorite web browser in your computer (Chrome is recommended) then go to this url http://en.miui.com/unlock/.


Step 2 – You’ll see the official page of “Unlock Your Mi Device”. Now simply click on the blue “Unlock Now” Button in the middle of the page.


Step 3 – You’ll see a login page in the next page which is in Chinese. If you use Google Chrome to open the page, then you can simply use its built-in Google Translate feature.


Step 4 – Once logged in, you’ll see the Unlock Application Permissions page


Step 5 – Now simply fill in all required fields then click on that green Apply Immediately button.


Step 6 – In the next page, you’ll need to enter a verification code sent to you via SMS. Check your phone for any SMS verification sent by Xiaomi server. The code is usually valid for only 5 minutes so you need to enter it immediately.


Step 7 – Once you have submitted the 6 digits code, you’ll then be redirected to another page saying that from the point toward all you need to do is just waiting for Xiaomi Developers to review and approve your application. Once approved, you’ll get another SMS which normally arrives between 3 to 21 days. The approval process is manual so just be patient on this.



However for some people might still experience slight problem with their applications. Please do not complain if the above steps didn’t work because unlocking the bootloader is simply not magic trick. If you did receive the SMS that your unlock permission has been approved but your device still rejected it, then I can suggest you to contact their developer directly here or here.

So you want to record more natural looking videos on your Redmi 2? Maybe so you get more headroom when video editing? Or does recording in low light look too choppy? Then this might be for you!
After reading Redmi 2 on XDA and checking out FreeDCam, I can say that its the best looking video recorder Ive tried on my phone.
Of course you want to see some samples (Sorry if the samples arent that great but there werent any colourful flowers around. :o)

This camera app will give you more manual controls than any other video recording app plus, you can even change them while recording! Heres some specific settings that you should change…
Contrast: Change to 0 (or something slightly higher). I guess the problem with other apps is that the contrast is set too high and makes shadows look too dark and highlights look too bright.
Sharpness: Set to 0 as the video will look more soft and natural. Sharpening after recording (i.e. using a program) seems to look better…
Denoise: Turn off as colours get washed out and we start to lose some of that detail. (Or keep it on if you really hate noise.)

Theres some issues regarding focussing, manual focus doesnt seem to work. If you want to set your focus to infinity, after launching the app, set the focus to auto, tap to focus once and then set your focus to infinity.

Ok great now I can record better videos! But at night the video looks blurry, choppy…
The reason why this happens is so that more light can enter the camera for longer, causing the video to look blurry, choppy and noisy. Here is a workaround where you can now record at a constant 30fps even in the dark! This idea came from some OnePlus thread where you could rename a front camera video binary file to the rear camera video binary as the front camera records at a constant 30fps. Be aware there is a trade-off and it is that dark places wont be as bright at 30fps compared to 15fps!
If you dont do this, then 15fps could actually be helpful as you can see more with less light! FreeDCam will help a lot with a low light situation with the increased exposure and decreased contrast. Youll get more noise though. You can either activate the denoiser and/or run a denoiser plugin after you have recorded your video.
(Note: Im not responsible for anything that might happen on your phone. Ive only tested this on cm13 so the files might be different across different roms.) ;)
Note that this mod will affect all apps that record video and dark places will look very dark.
Go to /vendor/lib/
Copy the name libchromatix_ov8865_sunny_default_video.so and then back it up (rename it to something like libchromatix_ov8865_sunny_default_video.so1
Create a copy of libchromatix_ov2680_5987fhq_default_video.so and rename it to libchromatix_ov8865_sunny_default_video.so
To revert change libchromatix_ov8865_sunny_default_video.so1 back to libchromatix_ov8865_sunny_default_video.so

Increase bitrate…
You can increase the video bitrate with FreeDCam (or any other video recording app if you mess with media_profile.xml) so you can record all that fine detail (including especially the noise). Here, well change the bitrate to 40Mbps.
Just head to /system/etc/media_profiles.xml and look for:

Change maxBitRate to 40000000 and save. This edit only tells the phone the maximum bitrate it can encode at.
In FreeDCam, make sure youre in 1080p! Change video bitrate to 40000000 and audio bitrate 320000. Be aware that the video size will now be around 300MB/min so make sure you have plenty of storage. (I tried using an USB OTG Drive. It works! But the USB device interfered with the microphones and created noise. :()

So yeah. The difference might not be that noticeable to some, but to me, it looks a lot better to me. While recording, the viewfinder might lag a bit but in the actual recorded video, itll be fine. I might put more samples up or maybe you try this out and get some samples for me! Hopefully there are some people here who are interested in video. :good:

How to Root Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Snapdragon 650 variant


If you are looking forward to rooting your Redmi Note 3 and have the custom ROMs, you first will need a custom recovery. For that, the developers have managed to develop a TWRP 3.0.0, the latest materialistic recovery. Keeping noted that this rooting and flashing TWRP method works only with the Snapdragon 650 version and not with the MTK versions of the phones. Follow the below instructions to successfully root your device.


Warning: The rooting and installing custom ROMs process may be riskful. You could brick your device. However, not to worry about warranty becoming void because it is a Xiaomi phone and they do cover the devices under warranty if rooted.

NOTE:
  • You need to have your bootloader unlocked in order to perform the below process. Click here to see the instructions to know how to unlock the bootloader.
  • This method is only for the Snapdragon variant. Do not try this with other variants which you have bought from Chinese websites.
  • Do follow the instructions step by step and read it thoroughly
  • The process erases all the data including your internal storage. So, please take a complete back-up of your device before starting. (Recommended to root and install TWRP as soon as you unlock your bootloader).
  • Make sure that your phone has at least 50% battery.
Files needed to root Redmi Note 3 and install TWRP
  1. ADB and Fastboot drivers for windows. – Download from XDA Forum
  2. TWRP 3.0.0 latest recovery for Redmi Note 3 – Download  Thanks to Developers!
  3. SuperSu.zip copy it to your phone’s internal root directory – Download
Requirements:
  • Verify your device for compatibility. The listed firmware is compatible with Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Snapdragon variant only. Also, take a complete backup of your device because the process will erase all the data.
  • Enable USB Debugging on your device. To do so, go to Settings>About Phone> Tap on the MIUI version several times until you get a new Developer Options in the additional settingsOpen Developer Options and enable USB Debugging from there. Trust the connection by allowing it when you connect it to your PC for the first time and check the always box there. Also, make sure that OEM Unlock is enabled in developer options.
Rooting and Installing TWRP process
  1. Connect your device to PC via USB with the above requirements.
  2. Boot your device into Fastboot mode.
  3. Extract the TWRP file that you have downloaded. It’s named as “Kenzo_V6.3.17_boot”.
  4. Open and run the Boot.bat file from the extracted folder and follow the instruction in setup. Your phone may or may not reboot after running the file. In either way, you have to boot it back to fasboot again.
  5. After entering into fastboot again, run the Twrp3.bat file and follow the instructions in setup. And then, your device will reboot into TWRP recovery.
  6. The default language in TWRP will be Chinese. So, consider the following screenshot and change the language.
  7. Now, after changing the language, swipe the button.
  8. Then, navigate to Install in TWRP recovery and select the SuperSu file that you have placed in the root directory of your internal storage. Swipe the button and reboot! You’re all done now.

The root access is now available. Now, you can flash Custom ROMs and Xposed modules in your device. As we see, there are not many Custom ROMs as of now for the Snapdragon variant.
